Naqvi Denies Rumors About President Zardari’s Resignation & COAS’s Political Ambitions

The federal government has firmly denied speculative reports suggesting President Asif Ali Zardari’s potential resignation and unfounded claims that Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir seeks the presidency. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi issued a stern rebuttal on social media, labeling the rumors as part of a “malicious campaign” targeting top leadership. He stressed that no such discussions had occurred, nor did any basis exist for these allegations.

In his statement, Naqvi asserted that President Zardari maintains a cordial and respectful relationship with the military leadership. Quoting the president, he said, “I know who is spreading these falsehoods and their motives.” The minister accused certain elements of collaborating with foreign adversaries to destabilize Pakistan’s political environment through misinformation.

Dismissing the notion of the army chief’s political ambitions, Naqvi clarified that General Asim Munir’s sole priority is Pakistan’s defense and stability. “The COAS is committed to his constitutional role, not political office,” he stated. The minister warned propagators of the false narrative, vowing to take necessary actions to safeguard national interests.

The speculation gained traction after the PML-N secured a simple majority in the National Assembly, aided by the Election Commission’s reinstatement of reserved seats per the Supreme Court’s verdict. The government views the rumors as an attempt to create unnecessary controversy amid the evolving political landscape. Authorities remain vigilant against such disinformation campaigns.
