NCHR Sindh Holds Workshop to Educate Nikah Registrars on Women’s Legal Rights

The National Commission for Human Rights (NCHR) Sindh, in collaboration with local authorities, organized a two-day workshop at Karachi’s Hotel Beach Luxury to train Nikah Registrars on the Muslim Family Laws Ordinance, 1961. The event aimed to enhance their understanding of legal obligations and their role in safeguarding women’s rights in marriage contracts.

Facilitated by experts, the workshop covered critical topics such as accurate Nikah Nama documentation, legal repercussions of improper registration, and measures to ensure women’s access to justice in marital disputes. The session highlighted how proper record-keeping can prevent future legal complications and protect vulnerable women from exploitation.

Regional Director Local Government Karachi, Mr. Ramzan Pathan, along with several deputy directors, participated in the workshop, underscoring the government’s commitment to legal compliance and gender equality. Their presence reinforced the importance of collaboration between registrars and authorities in implementing family laws effectively.

This initiative marks a significant step toward legal empowerment and awareness among Nikah Registrars, who play a pivotal role in formalizing marriages. By ensuring adherence to the law, the workshop seeks to reduce marital disputes and promote fair treatment of women in matrimonial matters across Karachi.
