Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur announced that his administration had successfully prevented horse-trading in the recent Senate elections, calling it an unprecedented achievement in the province’s political history. Speaking to reporters in Peshawar, Gandapur emphasized that PTI strictly followed ethical guidelines, avoiding any actions that could raise suspicions.
“Donkey-Trading, Not Horse-Trading”
In a humorous yet pointed remark, Gandapur suggested renaming political horse-trading as “donkey-trading,” arguing that horses are dignified animals while donkeys—though hardworking—better symbolize the corrupt dealings in politics. He reiterated that buying and selling Senate votes is unacceptable, which is why PTI enforced a strict no-trading policy.
PTI Secures 6 Seats Amid Internal Challenges
The chief minister admitted that some party members’ refusal to withdraw nominations had cost PTI seats, resulting in 6 wins for the ruling party and 5 for the opposition. However, he stressed that all decisions were made in line with PTI founder Imran Khan’s directives, adding that defying his choices would be equivalent to opposing Khan himself.
Temporary Alliance with Opposition
Gandapur clarified that PTI’s cooperation with opposition parties was limited to the Senate elections under an agreed 8-3 seat formula. With elected members now being sworn in per court orders, he expressed confidence that PTI’s stance would set a new precedent for cleaner politics in Pakistan.
