Omar Ayub Demands Full Disclosure on Disqualification Reference from NA Speaker

Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, Omar Ayub Khan, has formally written a letter to the Speaker of the National Assembly, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, seeking complete details regarding the disqualification reference filed against him and the decision taken by the Speaker.

In his letter, Ayub has requested a certified copy of the reference, the constitutional and legal grounds for its submission, and the entire record of proceedings. He has also demanded clarity on the allegations, particularly those relating to Articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution, under which the disqualification is being pursued.

Ayub asked whether any formal notice was issued to him or if he was granted an opportunity to clarify his position. He also questioned the legitimacy of a reference initiated on the basis of petitions filed by third parties.

The opposition leader further sought transparency in the process by asking for the internal file notings and all records of the Speaker’s decision-making process. He emphasized the importance of precedent regarding the Speaker’s discretionary powers under Article 63(2) and stressed the need for fairness and openness.

The reference against Omar Ayub was reportedly filed by Babar Nawaz and has already been forwarded to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) by the Speaker for further action.
