Two-time Academy Award winner Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is once again using her storytelling prowess to spotlight Pakistan’s unsung changemakers. Through her latest initiative, Frame It Forward, the acclaimed filmmaker aims to amplify the work of grassroots organizations tackling critical issues—from education and climate action to gender equality and refugee rights.
Chinoy, founder of SOC Films, believes many impactful initiatives remain unseen due to a lack of visibility. “Too often, vital work being done in the heart of our communities goes unnoticed simply because it isn’t being told,” she said. The campaign invites nonprofits to apply by July 25 for a chance to have their mission showcased in a professionally produced short film—completely free of cost. The winning organization’s story will premiere on Pakistan’s Independence Day (August 14), celebrating resilience and social progress.
This initiative builds on Chinoy’s longstanding commitment to social justice. Her recent Her Earth Advocates program trained 10 female filmmakers to document climate change’s impact on vulnerable communities. She has also collaborated with organizations like ChildLife Foundation and Indus Hospital to create advocacy documentaries. With Frame It Forward, she hopes to inspire more nonprofits to harness the power of visual storytelling.
Nonprofits across Pakistan are encouraged to apply and seize this rare opportunity to elevate their narratives. By blending artistry with activism, Chinoy continues to prove that storytelling can drive real-world change—one frame at a time.
