More than 33 million people in Pakistan are living with diabetes, and 30 to 40 percent of them also suffer from mental stress, according to Diabetologist Professor Abdul Basit.
Speaking to journalists at Indus Hospital, Dr Abdul Basit stated that the likelihood of depression among diabetic patients is two to three times higher than in the general population.
He also highlighted a severe shortage of mental health professionals in Pakistan.
During the same session, President of Indus Hospital and Health Network, Dr Abdul Bari Khan, emphasised that the institution not only provides free, high-quality treatment but is also committed to increasing public awareness through health-based research.
