Pakistan Advocates for Peaceful Resolution in Talks with India

Pakistan’s parliamentary delegation, led by Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, has expressed willingness to engage in dialogue with India to address longstanding disputes including Kashmir, terrorism, and water sharing. During meetings with the European Parliament’s Trade Committee, Bilawal emphasized that India’s unilateral actions regarding the Indus Waters Treaty constitute a violation of international law. He stressed that war is not a solution and that Pakistan remains committed to resolving conflicts through peaceful means.

Federal Minister Musadik Malik highlighted the grave implications of potential violations of the Indus Waters Treaty, noting that 70% of Pakistan’s population depends on this water system. He warned that any disruption would not only harm Pakistan but also affect impoverished communities in India. Malik reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to peaceful negotiations despite India’s aggressive posturing, emphasizing that water should not be weaponized in regional conflicts.

Former ambassador Jaleel Abbas Jilani described the EU meeting as significant for Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts. He briefed the committee on the Kashmir dispute and water issues while advocating for the continuation of Pakistan’s GSP Plus trade benefits. Jilani expressed optimism about the EU’s continued support for Pakistan’s economic development and trade relations.

The Pakistani delegation presented a unified stance on pursuing peaceful resolution mechanisms for all disputes with India. While acknowledging the challenges, officials emphasized Pakistan’s adherence to international law and its hope that India would reciprocate the commitment to dialogue. The meetings underscored Pakistan’s dual focus on protecting its national interests while maintaining its principled stand for peace in the region.
