The Pakistani Academy Selection Committee has officially opened the submission window for the 98th Academy Awards in the International Feature Film category. Local filmmakers have until 5 PM on August 15 to enter their films. To qualify, the film must be predominantly in a non-English language, with accurate English subtitles. Animated and documentary features are also eligible if they meet the criteria set by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS).
To be eligible, a film must be screened in a commercial cinema for at least seven consecutive days, between October 1, 2024, and September 30, 2025, either within Pakistan or internationally (excluding the US and its territories). The film must not be released on television, streaming platforms, or any non-theatrical medium prior to its qualifying run. Proper marketing and theatrical promotion are also mandatory for eligibility.
The selection committee consists of professionals from the film industry, including directors, artists, and technical experts, who are nominated and approved through a detailed process. The committee’s chairperson submits a proposed list of members to the International Feature Film Executive Committee for approval. All selected members are required to watch the submitted films and vote independently.
Once voting is complete, the results are compiled, and one film is selected as Pakistan’s official entry. The committee will coordinate with the Academy to ensure a smooth submission process. Past submissions such as The Glassworker, Joyland, and In Flames have raised the profile of Pakistani cinema internationally. Filmmakers are encouraged to read the rules carefully and contact oscarsubmissions.pk@gmail.com for forms and further information.
