Pakistan Celebrates 79th Independence Day with Renewed Unity and Resolve

ISLAMABAD: As Pakistan marks its 79th Independence Day, President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif called for national unity, urging citizens to rise above divisions and work toward a Pakistan rooted in justice, equality, and service to all.

The leaders paid tribute to Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and the heroes of the Pakistan Movement, while also celebrating the nation’s recent triumph in Marka-e-Haq (Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos)—a decisive victory against Indian aggression earlier this year.

A Day of Pride & Patriotism

  • 31-gun salute in Islamabad, 21-gun salutes in provincial capitals

  • Flag-hoisting ceremonies at Pakistan Monument, Supreme Court, and nationwide

  • Special prayers for peace, prosperity, and solidarity

  • Decorated streets, buildings, and landmarks glowing green and white

Marka-e-Haq: A Defining Moment

President Zardari hailed the nation’s “unshakable resolve” during the conflict, stating:

“Our success in Marka-e-Haq demonstrated Pakistan’s strength—a peace-loving nation that never bows to coercion.”

PM Shehbaz echoed the sentiment, calling the victory “a reaffirmation of the Two-Nation Theory” and praising the armed forces for “shattering the enemy’s false pride.”

A Call for Progress & Unity

Both leaders emphasized translating this military triumph into economic and social progress:

  • Economic revival, education reform, and technological advancement

  • Continued support for Kashmir’s right to self-determination

  • Strengthening institutions and national unity

The military leadership, including COAS Gen. Asim Munir, also extended Independence Day greetings, vowing to “safeguard Pakistan’s sovereignty and uphold the Constitution.”

As celebrations continue with cultural events, military exhibitions, and public festivities, the nation stands united—honoring its past while marching toward a stronger, more prosperous future.
