Pakistan Condemns Surge in Islamophobic Incidents Across India

Pakistan has voiced serious concern over the escalating wave of Islamophobia in India, urging New Delhi to ensure the rights and safety of all its citizens, regardless of their religion.

Speaking to the media on Saturday, Foreign Office spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan said, “Pakistan calls upon the Government of India to uphold the rights and safety of all its citizens, regardless of faith.”

He added that the growing trend of hate speech, discriminatory practices, and state tolerance of anti-Muslim sentiment in India is a pressing issue for the international community.

This statement follows the recent deadly attack in Pahalgam that killed at least 26 tourists. Since the incident, attacks on Muslim minorities by Hindu extremist groups have intensified across India.

According to the Association for Protection of Civil Rights (APCR), a New Delhi-based organization, 184 Islamophobic incidents have been recorded since the April 22 attack. These include three murders, assaults, threats, property damage, verbal abuse, and widespread hate speech. The organization noted that over 100 of these incidents were directly linked to the Pahalgam attack as a triggering factor.

“India’s Muslim population continues to bear the brunt of military tensions and political unrest between the two countries,” the spokesperson emphasized.
