Pakistan Start ODI Series With Commanding Win Over West Indies

TAROUBA, TRINIDAD: Pakistan began their three-match ODI series against West Indies in emphatic fashion, securing a five-wicket victory at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy on Friday.

Chasing a competitive 281, Pakistan overcame early wobbles to complete the target with seven balls to spare. Captain Mohammad Rizwan (53) and debutant Hasan Nawaz (63*) struck crucial half-centuries, while Babar Azam (47) and Hussain Talat (41*) provided vital contributions. The match was ultimately decided by an unbroken 101-run stand between Nawaz and Talat, who guided Pakistan home after a middle-order stutter.

Earlier, the hosts posted 280 all out in 49 overs, powered by fifties from Evin Lewis (60), Shai Hope (55), and Roston Chase (53). Late fireworks from Gudakesh Motie (31 off 18) boosted the total, but Shaheen Afridi (4-51) and Naseem Shah (3-55) ensured Pakistan kept the chase within reach.

Speaking post-match, Rizwan lauded Nawaz and Talat for their composure: “The conditions weren’t easy, but their partnership was exceptional.” He also acknowledged room for improvement in bowling, particularly in death overs.

The second ODI takes place on Sunday, with Pakistan looking to clinch the series early.
