Pakistan Takes Quantum Leap in Digital Higher Education with Landmark HEC Initiative

In a historic move for Pakistan’s education sector, the Higher Education Commission (HEC) launched the ‘Pakistan Digital Leap’ initiative, marking a transformative shift toward digitizing the nation’s universities. The event, attended by vice chancellors, corporate leaders, and education stakeholders, showcased cutting-edge digital infrastructure developed under HEC’s Higher Education Development Program (HEDP) in partnership with the World Bank—a project set to benefit over 6 million students nationwide.

A highlight of the event was HEC Chairman Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad’s groundbreaking holographic address—the first of its kind in Pakistan—symbolizing the country’s leap into futuristic education technology. “With these advancements, our students can now compete with global institutions, while universities gain cost efficiency and operational excellence,” said Dr. Ahmad. The initiative’s implementation partner, TMC Pvt Ltd, was recognized for digitizing 25 universities through its Maktab ERP-SLCS (for academic administration) and Al-Fihri LMS (a cloud-based learning platform), enabling seamless management of admissions, exams, and remote learning.

Abdul Haseeb, CEO of TMC, emphasized the project’s role in making education accessible, efficient, and inclusive. The systems promise paperless operations, enhanced security via HEC’s Astrolabes datacenters, and scalability for multi-campus institutions. This collaboration sets a new benchmark for Pakistan’s higher education, ensuring students and faculty are equipped with world-class, locally developed digital tools to thrive in a competitive global landscape.
