Pakistan Welcomes US Decision to Declare BLA & Majeed Brigade as Terrorist Organizations

Pakistan has welcomed the United States’ decision to declare the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) and its affiliate Majeed Brigade as Foreign Terrorist Organizations (FTOs). The US also added Majeed Brigade as an alias to BLA’s existing Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT) status. Pakistan’s Foreign Office stated that these groups have long been involved in deadly attacks, including the Jaffer Express bombing and Khuzdar bus attack, which resulted in significant civilian casualties.

The Foreign Office emphasized that Pakistan remains committed to eradicating terrorism and protecting its citizens. “Our sacrifices have secured critical counter-terrorism successes, benefiting not just Pakistan but regional and global security,” the statement read. The country has already banned Majeed Brigade as a terrorist entity since July 18, 2024, and reiterated its resolve to work with the international community against extremism.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the designations reflect the Trump administration’s commitment to fighting terrorism. “These measures are crucial in cutting off support for terrorist activities,” he said. The decision was made under Section 219 of the Immigration and Nationality Act and Executive Order 13224, taking effect upon publication in the Federal Register.

Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti welcomed the US decision, crediting Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts and Field Marshal Asim Munir’s leadership for presenting the case effectively. “These groups have killed innocents under false pretenses—terrorism has no justification,” Bugti stated, calling for global unity against extremism. The move marks a significant step in disrupting terrorist networks and enhancing regional security.
