The Henley Passport Index 2025 has brought encouraging news for Pakistan, as the country’s passport climbed 13 spots to secure the 100th position—its highest ranking yet. This improvement grants Pakistani citizens visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 32 countries, a significant boost for business travelers, tourists, and overseas workers. The Director General of Passports attributed this progress to upgraded security features and streamlined digital services, including the introduction of e-passports.
Singapore retained its top position with visa-free access to 193 countries, followed by Japan and South Korea (190 countries). European nations like Germany, France, and Italy ranked third (189 countries). Meanwhile, Pakistan’s entry into the top 100—alongside Somalia and Yemen—marks a notable diplomatic and logistical achievement. Just a year ago, Pakistan’s passport was among the world’s weakest, but reforms have visibly strengthened its global standing.
The DG Passports announced that e-gate facilities will soon be available at major airports, allowing e-passport holders to expedite immigration checks. Additionally, online passport services for overseas Pakistanis aim to further enhance convenience and efficiency. These measures, supported by the Ministry of Interior, are expected to drive further improvements in future rankings.
While India (82nd), Turkey (49th), and China (64th) still lead in regional rankings, Pakistan’s leap reflects improved international trust and technological advancements. The government’s focus on modernizing passport systems and strengthening diplomatic ties appears to be paying off, offering citizens greater global mobility and economic opportunities.
