Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Field Marshal Asim Munir, is expected to travel to the United States this week for crucial discussions with American military officials. Official sources confirm that this visit reciprocates US CENTCOM Commander Gen. Michael Erik Kurilla’s recent trip to Pakistan in late July.
During his visit, Gen. Kurilla was awarded Pakistan’s Nishan-i-Imtiaz (Military), recognizing his contributions to bilateral defense ties. The upcoming talks between Gen. Munir and US officials are likely to focus on counterterrorism collaboration and regional stability.
This will be Gen. Munir’s second US visit this year, following his June trip where he was hosted by former President Donald Trump at the White House—an exceptional gesture for a military leader. While Pakistan’s military and embassy have not officially confirmed the visit, Gen. Munir had previously hinted at another trip to the US later this year.
The development comes after Gen. Kurilla praised Pakistan as a “phenomenal partner” in counterterrorism during a US congressional hearing, highlighting its role in regional peace. The visit underscores ongoing efforts to strengthen Pak-US defense relations amid evolving geopolitical challenges.
