Pakistan’s Business Community Firm on Nationwide Strike Despite Rumors of Postponement

The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) and the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) have made it clear that the nationwide trade strike scheduled for July 19 will proceed as planned. FPCCI Senior Vice President Saqib Nisar confirmed that while final discussions with stakeholders are still underway, the decision to shut down businesses across the country remains unchanged for now.

KCCI President Javed Bilwani strongly refuted rumors of any delay or cancellation, emphasizing that all arrangements have been finalized. He stated that the strike was decided after extensive consultations with major chambers of commerce from all four provinces, and any potential changes would only be made in coordination with them. Bilwani also condemned those spreading false claims, asserting that such individuals have no connection to the protest movement.

The business community has organized the strike in response to what they describe as burdensome tax policies and growing economic challenges. Traders nationwide have expressed strong support for the shutdown, viewing it as a necessary step to pressure the government into addressing their concerns.

With just days remaining, tensions are rising as authorities and business leaders monitor the situation. The strike is expected to significantly impact commercial activity across Pakistan, underscoring the deepening rift between policymakers and the private sector. Further updates are expected later today as final decisions are formalized.
