Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar met Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Foreign Ministers joint session in Beijing. The meeting, held under China’s presidency, focused on deepening cooperation among member states within the framework of the SCO, which represents the largest population bloc spanning Eurasia.
President Xi, hosting the delegates at the Great Hall of the People, reaffirmed the importance of multilateralism and regional security. He welcomed the foreign ministers and highlighted China’s commitment to fostering collective progress on political and security matters in the region.
Leading the Pakistani delegation, Ishaq Dar conveyed warm greetings from Pakistan’s leadership, emphasizing the iron-clad bond and all-weather strategic cooperative partnership between Pakistan and China. Dar reiterated Pakistan’s resolve to advance shared regional objectives and strengthen ties within the SCO framework.
Upon his arrival in Beijing, Dar was warmly received by senior officials from China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Pakistan’s ambassador to China. The SCO, comprised of 10 member countries including China, Russia, Pakistan, India, and Iran, serves as a crucial forum for regional diplomacy and security, with the next SCO leaders’ summit scheduled in Tianjin from 31 August to 1 September 2025.
