Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a significant one-on-one meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Beijing. The meeting served as a platform for both leaders to express a strong mutual commitment to deepening the scope of bilateral cooperation between their two countries, signaling a positive step forward in diplomatic relations.
Speaking during the meeting, President Putin affirmed that Russia values its excellent existing relations with Pakistan and looks forward to strengthening these ties even further. In a gesture of solidarity, the Russian leader also acknowledged the natural calamity currently facing Pakistan and expressed his sorrow over the losses and devastation caused by the recent floods.
In response, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s desire to enhance and expand its relationship with Russia. He specifically highlighted trade and economic collaboration as key areas of focus, stating that Pakistan is keen to broaden its partnership with Moscow across multiple sectors for mutual benefit.
Beyond bilateral matters, the Prime Minister also emphasized Pakistan’s broader foreign policy objective of fostering peace, stability, development, and shared prosperity within the region. The meeting underscored a shared interest in elevating the strategic partnership between Pakistan and Russia.
