PM Shehbaz Sharif Pushes for Digital Governance & Systemic Reforms

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stressed the urgent need to replace Pakistan’s decades-old governance system with a modern, digitized, and efficient framework, stating that sustainable economic growth cannot be achieved without systemic reforms. While chairing a high-level meeting, he directed ministries to implement performance-enhancing reforms and recruit top-tier experts across all sectors to align with global standards.

The Ministry of Energy delivered a detailed briefing on its newly implemented governance model, which separates policy-making from technical execution. Under the National Electricity Plan, 134 strategic directives have been enforced, reducing losses and saving billions for the national exchequer. PM Shehbaz commended Energy Minister Sardar Awais Leghari and his team, highlighting their reforms as a blueprint for other ministries.

The Prime Minister announced the formation of a special committee to replicate the Energy Ministry’s success across other government institutions. This committee will finalize restructuring plans, ensure expert hiring, and integrate modern governance practices. “Pakistan has abundant resources and a talented youth force—our systems must evolve to unlock their potential,” Shehbaz stated, emphasizing collaboration with international consultants for cutting-edge solutions.

The meeting also reviewed profiles of sector specialists and the Energy Ministry’s operational improvements. Federal ministers and senior officials attended, reaffirming their commitment to Pakistan’s transformation. PM Shehbaz concluded by asserting that only innovation, expert-led policies, and digitization can propel Pakistan toward prosperity in a competitive global landscape.
