PPP Minister’s Brother Booked Under Anti-Terrorism Act After Alleged Assault on Official

Farhan Ghani, the brother of Sindh Provincial Minister Saeed Ghani, was presented before a special magistrate in Karachi on Sunday amid tight security. He faces serious allegations for allegedly assaulting a government official, Hafiz Sohail Ahmed Jadoon. The police requested and were granted a one-day transit remand, after which the accused will be presented before the administrative judge of an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Monday, as the investigating officer confirmed the case falls under the ATC’s purview.

The case was initially registered at Karachi’s Firozabad Police Station against Farhan Ghani, who serves as the chairman of Chanesar Town, and four other named accomplices. The First Information Report (FIR) levels severe charges, including assault, rioting, attempt to murder, and threats. Critically, the complaint also invokes Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA), significantly raising the legal stakes for all the accused.

According to the complainant’s account detailed in the FIR, the incident occurred while he was supervising optical fibre cable work. He alleged that a mob of 20 to 25 individuals, led by the accused, arrived at the scene, verbally abused him, and proceeded to torture him. This allegation forms the core of the case that has now been escalated to the anti-terrorism legal framework.

In response to the developments, Provincial Minister Saeed Ghani addressed the situation via a social media post. He acknowledged that an altercation had taken place and affirmed the complainant’s right to file an FIR. Striking a conciliatory tone, he stated that his brother, Farhan Ghani, and the other accused would surrender to the law and prove their innocence in court. Following this statement, Farhan Ghani surrendered to the Ferozabad police late on Saturday night.
