Public Dissatisfaction Grows in KP – Survey Reveals Major Governance & Economic Concerns

A new survey by Gallup Pakistan has revealed widespread discontent among residents of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) regarding governance, public services, and economic challenges. Conducted between February and March 2025 with 3,000 respondents, the poll highlights severe shortages in basic amenities—74% lack access to clean drinking water and education, while 63% struggle with inadequate healthcare. Rural and southern KP face even worse conditions, with 66% deprived of gas and 49% suffering from poor electricity supply.

Despite infrastructure improvements during PTI’s previous term, nearly half of the respondents claim no new development projects have been initiated since the 2024 elections. Shockingly, even 49% of PTI voters report no progress in their areas. Corruption remains a major concern, with over half believing development funds were misused, and 71%—including PTI supporters—demanding investigations. Nearly half also say corruption in government departments has worsened.

Economic distress is a key issue, with 59% citing rising unemployment and 67% complaining of limited opportunities. Most respondents are unaware of government economic initiatives, and 73% allege hiring is based on nepotism rather than merit. While 58% feel security has improved, 57%—particularly in South KP—still fear terrorism. The formal justice system is viewed as slow and corrupt, pushing 84% to prefer traditional jirgas for dispute resolution.

Although the Sehat Card programme enjoys 83% approval, only 38% believe Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur is performing better than his predecessors, with 47% preferring Imran Khan in the role. An overwhelming 85% want better cooperation between KP and the federal government, criticizing the province’s confrontational approach. The survey underscores a critical moment for KP, with citizens demanding jobs, accountability, and better governance—even from PTI’s own voter base.
