Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed all relevant departments to remain on high alert in anticipation of a possible eighth spell of monsoon rains. She issued specific instructions to the officials of eight divisions—Lahore, Rawalpindi, Multan, Bahawalpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Sargodha, Gujrat, and Gujranwala—to complete all necessary precautionary arrangements. All commissioners and deputy commissioners were ordered to ensure the strict implementation of early warnings, SOPs, and safety guidelines issued by the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA).
The Chief Minister emphasized the need for proactive measures, including the timely deployment of relief teams to vulnerable areas. She instructed that mosques and loudspeakers be utilized to issue evacuation announcements to communities at risk. Furthermore, she ordered that mobile medical units, including Clinic-on-Wheels and field hospitals, be deployed to provide immediate medical treatment to potential flood victims.
Special attention was directed towards the riverine areas. The CM ordered that special arrangements be made along the Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi, and Sutlej rivers, with the PDMA and all relevant authorities instructed to remain in a state of full preparedness. For communities near the Sutlej River, she mandated that rescue services, district administrations, and police ensure prompt evacuations and implement all necessary safety measures.
Recognizing the economic importance of livestock, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz also ordered that vaccination and medical facilities be provided for animals in flood-affected regions. She further instructed the pre-emptive relocation of livestock to safer areas. Multiple departments, including agriculture, irrigation, health, forests, livestock, local government, and transport, were mobilized and directed to remain on high alert to respond effectively to any emergency situation.
