Punjab Food Authority Cracks Down on Adulterated Milk in Lahore

LAHORE: The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has intensified its ongoing campaign in the provincial capital against the sale of adulterated milk, aiming to curb the illicit practice of milk contamination.

During the operation, authorities disposed of 14,000 liters of adulterated milk and impounded six tankers. Furthermore, six First Information Reports (FIRs) were registered against milk suppliers at various police stations. This crackdown targets the milk adulteration mafia and was initiated under the special directives of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.

PFA Director General Muhammad Asim Javaid reported that the authority’s Dairy Safety Teams (DST) conducted inspections of multiple milk carrier vehicles at various entry points to the city. He stated that during the screening of milk samples using advanced laboratory equipment, the teams discovered 350 maunds of substandard and tainted milk in different vehicles.

Javaid confirmed that thousands of liters of contaminated milk were discarded after sample analysis revealed the milk failed to meet quality standards. The DSTs identified several adulterants, including polluted water, milk powder, low levels of fat, and a general lack of nutritional value in the seized products.

He emphasized that the authority is ensuring comprehensive traceability and inspection of milk from its source at dairy farms all the way to the consumer. “They are on a mission to make Punjab adulteration-free by thwarting every tactic of the milk adulteration mafia,” he added.

Muhammad Asim Javaid further stated that any negligence in guaranteeing the supply of quality food items would not be tolerated. He has also appealed to the public to support the PFA’s efforts to eliminate the adulteration mafia and to report any complaints using the authority’s helpline, 1223.
