Punjab Minister Expresses Cross-Border Solidarity with Indian Punjab Amid Flood Crises

Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari, on behalf of the provincial government, has expressed a message of solidarity and support for the people of India’s Punjab province, which is currently grappling with devastating record floods. Her statement highlights a shared sense of humanity amidst the natural disasters affecting the broader Punjab region, irrespective of international borders.

Speaking to the media, Minister Bukhari specifically extended her sympathies to the Sikh community in India. She stated, “On behalf of the chief minister of Punjab and its people, we express solidarity with India’s Punjab, particularly our Sikh brothers and sisters, who have suffered unprecedented damage due to floods.” This gesture underscores the cultural and historical bonds between the two regions.

The minister’s comments on international solidarity were made alongside an update on the severe flood situation within Pakistan’s own Punjab province. She reported that rescue operations are ongoing at a intense pace, with at least 10,810 people having been successfully rescued from the flood-ravaged city of Multan after waters inundated the area.

Detailing the recent efforts, Bukhari provided that authorities rescued 2,343 people in a single 24-hour period. She added that an additional 143 individuals were shifted to safety just the night before her press briefing, highlighting the continuous and critical nature of the emergency response within Pakistan.
