The onslaught of the annual monsoon rains has led to tragic incidents across Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, where at least three people have died and three others sustained injuries in separate roof collapse accidents. Rescue officials reported that heavy rainfall, which continues to lash the region, was the primary cause of these deadly collapses. In the district of Lakki Marwat, two women and a 15-year-old boy lost their lives when the roof of their home gave way under the pressure of relentless rain.
Rescue 1122 teams responded swiftly, clearing debris and recovering the bodies, which were then taken to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital in Sarai Naurang. Other incidents were reported in Bannu, where a man and a young boy were injured after a similar roof collapse, and in Tank district, where a 35-year-old man sustained serious injuries in yet another rain-induced accident. All the injured received prompt first aid and were transported to nearby medical facilities.
Authorities remain on high alert, with Rescue 1122 teams mobilized across affected districts to safeguard lives and property. The Pakistan Meteorological Department had issued warnings of intense downpours from July 27 to 31, urging district administrations to minimize damage. Heavy rainfall, windstorms, and lightning have particularly endangered weak structures, such as mud houses and exposed utility installations.
These recent tragedies are part of a broader wave of destruction brought by this year’s monsoon. Flash floods swept through Naran, stranding and later evacuating 160 tourists, while last week saw 250 people rescued from the Babusar Highway area. According to the National Disaster Management Authority, since late June, the national toll from monsoon-related incidents has surged to 234, with nearly half of the victims being children. Provincial authorities are coordinating on-the-ground relief efforts and continuing to issue safety advisories as the rains persist.
