KARACHI: The Russian Centre for Science and Culture (Russian House) in Karachi, in partnership with the Ural State Pedagogical University (USPU), has officially announced a Russian Government Scholarship program for Pakistani students.
The initiative was unveiled during a special briefing for journalists at the Russian House, which was attended by a USPU delegation headed by Dr. Roman Porozov and Anton Dolgov.
The collaborative program, supported by Russia’s Ministry of Education, USPU, the “My Story” Foundation for the Support of the Humanities, and the Russian House in Karachi, offers complimentary courses in Russian language and culture. Prospective students can now register, with the courses scheduled to run until the conclusion of October.
Instruction is being provided by faculty members from USPU’s Centre for Open Education, including Dr. Porozov and Dolgov.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Porozov detailed the university’s academic offerings and reflected on his teaching experiences within Pakistan. “This is not our first – and hopefully not our last – visit to Pakistan,” he stated. “In 2024, we taught Russian at universities in Karachi and conducted workshops on Russian culture, history, and education.”
Another delegate, Prokhorov, observed that Pakistani students demonstrate remarkable focus and a clear sense of purpose in learning the Russian language. “Pakistani students are very pragmatic and know exactly why they are studying Russian,” he commented.
He further stressed that the Russian House in Karachi is the sole authorized organization managing the scholarship selection procedure. “We have no other branches or partner organizations in Pakistan,” he clarified.
Prokhorov also issued a warning to applicants about fraudulent offers that promise scholarships in exchange for money, advising them to report any such incidents directly to the Russian Centre in Karachi.
