KARACHI : The Sindh Assembly on Tuesday unanimously passed a resolution condemning India’s actions in Jammu and Kashmir on the occasion of Youm-e-Istehsal-e-Kashmir (Kashmir Exploitation Day), marking six years since India revoked Article 370 of its Constitution, stripping the region of its special status.
Addressing the Assembly session, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah declared India’s move on August 5, 2019, as illegal, inhumane, and oppressive. “It was the first time in history that a government betrayed its own people by withdrawing their fundamental rights,” he said, referring to the revocation of the constitutional autonomy of Jammu and Kashmir through a presidential order.
Mr Shah strongly denounced the Modi government’s actions and expressed full support for the resolution presented in the Assembly. “Kashmir is the jugular vein of Pakistan. We salute the struggle, sacrifices, and resilience of our Kashmiri brothers and sisters,” Murad Ali Shah said.
The chief minister reaffirmed Sindh’s unwavering solidarity with the people of Kashmir, stating: “We stand shoulder to shoulder with them in their just struggle for freedom and the right to self-determination.”
Discussing the historical commitment of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) to the Kashmir cause, Murad Shah recalled the contributions of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, who, both as foreign minister and later as prime minister, advocated for Kashmir on global platforms. “His words still echo in our national policy, “I cannot make a mistake about Kashmir even in my sleep’ and ‘We are ready for a thousand-year war for Kashmir,’” he quoted.
The CM further acknowledged the role of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, who kept the Kashmir issue alive on the world stage during her exile and always met with Kashmiri organisations abroad. President Asif Ali Zardari and Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari also raised the Kashmir issue at international forums, especially during Bilawal’s tenure as Foreign Minister, he added.
Referring to the recent armed confrontation in May 2025, Murad Ali Shah claimed that Pakistan gave a befitting response to India’s aggression in Azad Kashmir. “From May 6 to May 10, in what can be termed as the ‘Battle of Truth,’ Indian airbases and aircraft were destroyed, and they had to seek American mediation for a ceasefire,” he said.
The emphasized that silencing the voice of Kashmiris is no longer possible. “This cause is a central component of Pakistan’s foreign policy. Kashmir belongs to the Kashmiris, not India. Only the people of Kashmir have the right to decide their future,” he declared, demanding the implementation of United Nations resolutions that grant Kashmiris the right to self-determination.
The chief minister also drew attention to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, strongly condemning Israeli atrocities. “Today, as we remember Kashmir, it is also our moral duty to speak out against the brutality being inflicted in Gaza. This is not just a religious issue; it is a humanitarian one,” he said, urging the international community, especially the Islamic world, to take decisive action.
Murad Ali Shah concluded by reaffirming Sindh’s full moral, political, and diplomatic support for the people of Kashmir and reiterated the demand for justice, peace, and human rights in both Kashmir and Palestine.
