KARACHI: The Sindh government has decided to allocate funds in the upcoming fiscal year 2025–26 for the procurement of additional buses and the promotion of electric vehicles, including EV taxis and scooters. The decision was taken during an important meeting of the Transport and Mass Transit Department, chaired by Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon.

The meeting was attended by Transport Secretary Asad Zamin, Sindh Mass Transit Authority MD Kamal Dayo, TransKarachi CEO Fawad Ghaffar Soomro, and other relevant officials. The meeting also touched on investor interest in launching bus services under public-private partnerships. It was informed that the Jam Sadiq Bridge segment of the Yellow Line BRT is complete and could be inaugurated this month. Instructions were given to accelerate work on the Red Line BRT project for early completion.

Minister Memon reaffirmed the Sindh government’s commitment to developing an environmentally friendly and modern public transport system. He announced that more buses would soon arrive in Karachi, including double-decker buses, and emphasized efforts to expand the successful EV buses and People’s Bus Service across the city. “We aim to provide modern travel facilities to every citizen across Sindh and streamline traffic through sustainable and efficient transport solutions,” he said.
