A delegation from the Karachi Union of Journalists (KUJ) met with Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon on Monday to formally invite him to the organization’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations. The event, scheduled to take place at Khaliq Dina Hall in Karachi, will span three days and commemorate KUJ’s long-standing contributions to journalism.
KUJ President Tahir Hussain Khan and other office-bearers attended the meeting, where they discussed the importance of a free press in a democratic society. Minister Memon, who also holds the portfolios of Information, Transport, and Mass Transit, assured the delegation of the Sindh government’s full support for the upcoming celebrations.
During the discussion, Memon reaffirmed the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP)-led government’s commitment to journalist welfare and press freedom. He acknowledged the historic sacrifices made by journalists for democracy and assured that the Sindh government prioritizes resolving their issues. Additionally, he briefed the delegation on ongoing development projects in health, energy, transport, and housing.
The minister emphasized that the benefits of these initiatives are reaching the public, reinforcing the government’s dedication to progress. The Platinum Jubilee event is expected to highlight the critical role of journalism while honoring the contributions of media professionals in Pakistan.
