Sindh Health Minister Launches Week-Long Anti-Polio Drive in Shaheed Benazirabad

NAWABSHAH: Sindh Minister for Health and Population Welfare, Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho, officially inaugurated a seven-day National Anti-Polio Campaign in Shaheed Benazirabad on Saturday. The launch ceremony, held at the Darbar Hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, featured the minister administering polio vaccine drops to children.

The event was attended by Deputy Commissioner Abdul Samad Nizamani, Vice Chancellor of Peoples Medical University Professor Dr. Gulshan Memon, District Health Officer Dr. Mudassir Hussain, Mubeen Magrio, officials from the Health Department, Polio Program representatives, and other concerned officers.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho stated that the eradication of polio remains one of the Sindh government’s highest priorities. She urged all parents to ensure that every child under five years of age receives the polio drops to safeguard them from lifelong disability.

The minister commended the dedication of polio workers, referring to them as “national heroes” for carrying out their duties in all kinds of weather. She directed the relevant officers to ensure that no child is missed during the campaign, underscoring the critical need to achieve 100% coverage of the vaccination target.

Dr. Pechuho also issued a warning, stating that departmental action would be initiated against any officers whose performance during the anti-polio drive is found to be unsatisfactory. She instructed all officials to employ every resource at their disposal to ensure the campaign’s success.

On the occasion, Polio Focal Person Dr. Allah Bux Rajpar provided details, stating that during the national campaign from October 13 to 19, more than 426,000 children under the age of five across the district are slated to receive the polio vaccine. He confirmed that all necessary arrangements for the drive have been finalized.

Following the ceremony, the minister distributed shields and certificates to former District Health Officer Dr. Asadullah Dahri and several Lady Health Workers in recognition of their exceptional service.
