Sindh Launches National Cervical Cancer Vaccination Campaign in Nawabshah

Provincial Minister for Health and Population Welfare, Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho, officially inaugurated the national cervical cancer vaccination campaign in Nawabshah (Shaheed Benazirabad) on Friday. The ceremony was attended by Deputy Commissioner Abdul Samad Nizamani and other prominent local officials. In her address, Minister Pechuho emphasized the Health Department’s commitment to providing quality medical facilities and urged parents to cooperate fully by ensuring their daughters are vaccinated during the drive.

The campaign is set to run from September 15 to 29 across the Shaheed Benazirabad district. District Health Officer (DHO) Dr. Asadullah Dahri provided operational details, stating that the ambitious goal is to vaccinate approximately 166,000 girls between the ages of 9 and 14 years. To achieve this, a significant workforce has been mobilized, including 126 vaccination teams and 86 supervisors deployed across the district.

To ensure the campaign’s success and reach, Minister Pechuho distributed 50 motorcycles among district vaccinators and handed over a mobile vaccination van to the DHO. Dr. Dahri noted that this provision of transportation would greatly assist health workers in reaching their targets, particularly in remote or hard-to-access areas, facilitating a more efficient vaccination process.

The inauguration event saw attendance from a wide array of local dignitaries and health officials, including Chairman District Council Ali Akbar Jamali and various department heads. The campaign represents a major public health initiative aimed at preventing cervical cancer and protecting the long-term health of young women in the region through widespread vaccination.
