Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has announced that the provincial government has decided to use modern technology to conduct vehicle fitness checks.
According to Dawn News, while addressing the budget session in the Sindh Assembly, Senior Provincial Minister Sharjeel Memon said that the Transport Department is digitizing Motor Vehicle Inspection (MVI). Vehicle fitness certificates will be available online, inspections will be conducted using machines, and digital certificates with QR codes will be issued.
He revealed that earlier, only two inspectors were responsible for vehicle fitness across the province. Now, the Sindh government has decided to purchase advanced machinery to make vehicle fitness checks mandatory and accurate.
The minister also addressed criticism surrounding the Red Line BRT project, stating that the PPP-led government had not caused any delays. Challenges arose due to depot location issues and civil aviation restrictions, but efforts continue to resolve them. He added that the Sindh government aims to complete the Yellow Line BRT project ahead of schedule.
Sharjeel Memon further stated that the Green and Orange Line buses currently serve 65,000 passengers daily, although projections were over 100,000. He also shared that the Sindh government is distributing free pink electric scooters to women, and over 7,000 driving license applications from women have been received. Pakistan’s first EV bus was introduced in Sindh, and now EV taxis with women drivers are being launched.
Additionally, the provincial information minister announced that over 100,000 individuals have registered on the newly launched Job App, where both private and public sector job listings are available — ranging from plumbers to engineers.
