South Africa to Host Bulk of 2027 Cricket World Cup Matches

Cricket South Africa (CSA) has announced the formation of a local organising committee for the 2027 50-over Men’s Cricket World Cup, revealing that the majority of the tournament will be hosted domestically. The committee will be headed by former South African finance minister, Trevor Manuel. The announcement confirms that 44 of the event’s 54 total matches will be played across eight different venues in South Africa.

The remaining 10 matches of the tournament will be co-hosted by neighboring nations Zimbabwe and Namibia. This collaborative effort marks the first time the men’s Cricket World Cup will be held on African soil since the 2003 edition, which was jointly staged in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Kenya. Since then, South Africa has successfully hosted two Women’s World Cups.

The eight South African cities selected to host matches are Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town, Durban, Gqeberha, Bloemfontein, East London, and Paarl. This wide geographic spread aims to make the event accessible to fans across the nation and showcase the country’s diverse infrastructure.

CSA chairperson Pearl Maphoshe stated the organization’s vision is “to stage a global, inspiring event which will reflect the face of South Africa — diverse, inclusive, and united.” The announcement builds excitement for what promises to be a significant sporting event for the continent.
