Nico Gramatica kicked a 20-yard field goal as time expired to cap a stunning comeback, lifting South Florida to an 18-16 victory over No. 13 Florida on Saturday in Gainesville. The thrilling finish was set up by an eight-play, 87-yard drive in the final two minutes, executed after Gramatica had just missed a 58-yard attempt that fell short with 2:52 left on the clock.
The win marks a historic start for the Bulls (2-0), who secured their second straight victory over a ranked AP team after defeating then-No. 25 Boise State in Week 1. This also represents USF’s first road win against a ranked opponent since their famous 2011 victory at Notre Dame. Quarterback Byrum Brown was instrumental in the upset, completing 23 of 36 passes for 263 yards and a touchdown.
In a starkly different game, the No. 1 ranked Ohio State Buckeyes delivered a dominant 70-0 shutout against Grambling. Buckeyes quarterback Julian Sayin was nearly flawless, setting a school record by completing his first 16 passes of the game. By halftime, he was 18 of 19 for 306 yards and four touchdowns, including an 87-yard strike to Jeremiah Smith, as Ohio State built an insurmountable 35-0 lead.
Sayin, Smith, and the rest of the starters did not play in the second half after the commanding performance. The victory showcased the overwhelming firepower of the top-ranked Buckeyes as they cruised to a lopsided win at home in Columbus.
