In a brazen act of terrorism, militants attacked a Federal Constabulary (FC) fort in the Torawari area of Hangu, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on Monday. The assault resulted in the martyrdom of at least three soldiers and left 17 others wounded. According to Superintendent of Police (SP) Operations Asad Zubair, security forces swiftly retaliated against the attack, engaging the terrorists in a fierce firefight that ultimately forced them to retreat. The injured personnel were promptly evacuated and shifted to Doaba Hospital for medical treatment.
In the immediate aftermath of the attack, security responses were intensified. Police personnel encountered and gunned down a key facilitator of the terrorists after he opened fire on them. A extensive search operation is currently underway in the district, led by the police, to apprehend any remaining individuals involved in the planning or execution of the assault.
This incident occurs against a backdrop of a significant surge in terrorist activity across Pakistan, particularly in the provinces of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. Data from the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS) reveals an alarming spike, with 78 terrorist attacks recorded in June alone. These attacks led to 100 fatalities, a tragic toll that included 53 security personnel and 39 civilians, underscoring the severe threat faced by both the public and those who protect them.
Despite these challenges, Pakistan’s security forces and law enforcement agencies (LEAs) have maintained a proactive offensive against militant groups. Recent operations include targeted actions in KP’s Bajaur district and a major success in Zhob, Balochistan, where 47 Indian-backed terrorists were eliminated while attempting to infiltrate from Afghanistan. These continued efforts highlight the determination of the state to eradicate the menace of terrorism and ensure national security.
