Karachi witnessed another tragic Independence Day as reckless aerial firing claimed three lives, including a seven-year-old girl, and left more than 100 injured. Despite repeated bans, celebratory gunfire continued across the city, with victims rushed to hospitals with bullet wounds.
According to police surgeon Dr. Summaiya Syed, 109 injured were treated at major hospitals, with three in critical condition. In Azizabad, a young girl was fatally struck in the head while watching fireworks. Meanwhile, a 35-year-old man died in Korangi, and a 70-year-old was killed in Kalri by stray bullets. Police have detained four suspects and recovered weapons, but the tradition of dangerous celebrations persists. Authorities must take stronger action to prevent such needless loss of life.
