During a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House, US President Donald Trump stated that he has resolved eight international conflicts within the last eight months. He specifically pointed to tensions between Pakistan and India, as well as in Gaza, and characterized the recent clashes between Pakistan and Afghanistan as a straightforward issue to settle.
“…although I do understand that Pakistan attacked, or there is an attack going on with Afghanistan. That’s an easy one for me to solve if I have to solve it,” President Trump remarked. He added that while his primary duty is governing the United States, he takes great personal satisfaction in ending wars and establishing peace in troubled regions.
The President claimed his interventions have averted massive casualties. “All of these wars had nothing to do with us, but I saved tens of millions of lives. The Prime Minister of Pakistan said I saved millions of lives in interceding on Pakistan, and you look at Pakistan and India as an example. That would have been a bad one, two nuclear nations, right?” he said.
Listing his diplomatic achievements, Trump stated, “I’ve solved eight conflicts, including the Middle East. This [Ukraine-Russia] I thought would have been among the easiest. [Russian President Vladimir] Putin mentioned yesterday — Armenia, you know, all of the different wars.” He expressed particular surprise at the settlement he facilitated in the Middle East, describing it as “amazing.”
President Zelensky’s visit to Washington was aimed at securing military aid for his country’s ongoing, three-year conflict with Russia. However, President Trump repeatedly shifted the focus to his recent peace summit with President Putin, which occurred just weeks prior. The hastily arranged meeting on Thursday appeared to be part of Trump’s continued strategy to mediate a peace agreement, potentially undermining Zelensky’s request for missile systems.
Before their private luncheon, Trump mentioned that his previous day’s call with Putin would be a topic of discussion. He once again voiced his opinion that his efforts deserve recognition with a Nobel Peace Prize.
“It’s funny how people say that if you get this one, every time I do one, they forget about that one. I solved eight wars. Go to Rwanda and the Congo. Talk about India and Pakistan,” Trump said. “Look at Thailand. Every time I solve one, they say, ‘If you solve the next one, you’re going to get the Nobel Prize.’ I didn’t get a Nobel Prize.”
He concluded with a cryptic reference, noting, “Like somebody got it, who’s a very nice woman, very nice. I don’t know who she is, but she was very generous.”
