U.S. President Donald Trump has reiterated that several Indian fighter jets were downed during the recent tensions between Pakistan and India, describing the crisis as a near miss with potential nuclear consequences.
Speaking at an event marking the Azerbaijan-Armenia peace agreement, Trump said “five or six” jets were shot down amid the conflict. He emphasized that the dispute was “serious” and that both nations stood on the brink of war.
“I don’t want wars; I want peace and trade,” Trump said, adding, “I even stopped a war between Pakistan and India.” He praised the leaders of both countries for showing restraint and choosing diplomacy over escalation.
The president also revealed that a peace deal with Russia is nearing completion and that he will soon meet with Presidents Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky, as both Moscow and Kyiv now seek an end to the war in Ukraine.
Reflecting on the Pakistan-India ceasefire, Trump said his advice to focus on trade instead of conflict played a role in preventing a major war.
