Senator Sherry Rehman, speaking on the programme Geo Pakistan, voiced grave concerns over escalating tensions between Iran and Israel, warning that a continuation of the conflict could lead to a broader, uncontrolled war.
“Israel is aggressive and uncontrolled, wants to become the policeman of the entire region,” Rehman said, while noting that the world is closely observing Iran’s ongoing response to the situation.
She drew a parallel between the ideologies of Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, implying a shared approach that could exacerbate regional instability.
Rehman highlighted the repeated appeals of the US president for peace, lamenting the lack of credit given for these efforts.
She stressed that if the current escalation persists, the conflict could easily expand beyond its immediate boundaries, a concern that emerged as the Pakistani delegation, led by Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, was concluding its diplomatic engagements in Europe.
During the discussion, Rehman also lauded the diplomatic achievements of Bilawal and his delegation on the international stage.
She asserted that such a level of diplomatic success within a mere 15 days had been unprecedented in Pakistan’s history, attributing significant attention from European counterparts to Pakistan during their meetings.
Shifting focus to regional dynamics, Rehman also mentioned numerous meetings held in London regarding the Kashmir issue. She expressed alarm over India’s “unprovoked” imposition of war in the region, deeming it a serious concern.
Furthermore, she criticised the Modi government’s threatening posture, stating it is not conducive to logical and positive dialogue.
