WAPDA Workers in Dadu Join Nationwide Strike Against Privatization

Dadu (Report Abdul Qadir Mahesar) Like the rest of the country, a nationwide protest was held in Dadu by the All Pakistan WAPDA Hydro Electric Workers Union against the privatization of WAPDA and its companies. The union, led by Aftab Panhwar, Altaf Panhwar, Muhammad Ali Mallah, Imamuddin Mallah, Syed Asif Shah, Zulfiqar Mallah, Saleem Junejo, and Muhammad Amin Shah, took out a protest rally from the Division Office.

The rally passed through various routes and reached the Dadu Press Club, where the employees staged a sit-in. Addressing the protest, the leaders said that the government is adamant about selling WAPDA companies at throwaway prices on the demand of the IMF.

The employees demanded that the government immediately stop the privatization process and fill the shortage of staff. Otherwise, on September 17, a historic sit-in will be staged at D-Chowk, Islamabad, which will continue until the demands are accepted. The leaders warned that the government will be responsible for the consequences.
