Widespread Unrest in Mehar as Citizens Protest Surging Crime Wave

Mehar( Report by Mujeeb Rahman Qambrani) In Mehar, citizens took to the streets to protest against the rising insecurity, thefts, robberies, and dacoity in the area. The Awami Jamhoori Party led the protest, starting with a rally from Mehar Bypass, followed by a 3-kilometer foot march that culminated in a sit-in at the Ghanta Ghar Chowk. The protesters then marched to the National Press Club Mehar, announcing their intention to continue daily protests.

The protest march included various political, social, and trade organizations, such as Shahri Ithad Mehar, SUP, JUI , PTI, QAT, AWP, Nojawan Action Committee, and Nojawan Shahri Ithad, among others. Leaders from these organizations, including Advocate Sajid Chandio, Advocate Saeed Panhwar, Niaz Ali Brohi, Sikandar Sodhar, Advocate Abid Kalhoro, Maulana Masood Panhwar, Advocate Mir Khoso, Meer Shakeel Attar , Ayoob Khoso and others, participated in the protest alongside a large number of citizens.

During the rally, protesters chanted slogans demanding peace, the closure of police stations’ “pathari” (toll booths), an end to citizen extortion, the removal of the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dadu, and the salvation of Dadu. The leaders addressing the gathering held the elected representatives of Mehar and Dadu, along with the SSP Dadu, responsible for the rising insecurity in Mehar. They claimed that these authorities had established “pathari” at police stations, allowing criminals to roam free and loot citizens daily.

The protesters demanded the removal of the SSP Dadu and the arrest of culprits involved in the robberies targeting merchants in Mehar, including Sajid Sodhar, Naveed Gorar, Madad Ali Kandhro, Babu Khoso, and Asif Kumbhar. They also demanded the recovery of stolen goods and the restoration of peace in Mehar and Dadu district. The protest will continue daily until the situation improves
